Coaching schedule makes life hectic
Posted on behalf of Wendy Smith (coaching wheelchair basketball in the UK)
The last two weeks have been a bit hectic to say the least. Training with my Women’s Team The Eastern Blue Stars went really well. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the session and they all headed to the pub afterwards. It’s not all about hard work, you have to let your hair down too
This was also a good opportunity to welcome our new players (any excuse for a social).
The Men’s session are well under way now. Everyone is having to do a fitness test and I know some are happier than others about this. One of the other head coaches has developed the test and she is a hard task master, so it won’t be easy. At least it gives us a good idea on what the team is going to need to work at, it’s also a good indicator of how much cake they have been eating off season
For the Men, we have had a name change this year. We are now called The London Titans, which I think is quite nice. The new kit hasn’t arrived yet and we are hoping it will be right first time.
I am having a little time off over the next couple of weeks as we have some friends over from Australia. Luckily they do love their exercise, so even if i’m not playing ball, I still get to go swim on a daily basis. I think I might be slightly exercise obsessed.
The Paralympics start next week and I am really looking forward to watching the basketball. On Tuesday I get to take a team up to the venue to try out the arena for disability access. I can’t wait, I do like to have a good nose about. It’s going to be great fun playing a game in their before the tournament starts.
I hope you are all going to watch and support your Country’s. Wishing you all a really good week. We actually have some sunshine at the moment here in the South of England. Enjoy yours if you have any where ever you are
