Site Visit for San Juan, Puerto Rico
In October 2012 the Central Americas and Caribbean Wheelchair Basketball Championships will take place in San Juan, Puerto Rico.
Well here I am in San Juan, Puerto Rico, a beautiful country that is very warm right now. I am here for a site visit for the 2012 Central Americas and Caribbean Championships later this year.
Today we visited the coliseum where the games will be played. They tell me that the professional volleyball team plays here. It has a fantastic floor, one of the nicest I have seen in a long time.
The 24 second clock over the basket is missing at one end – it seems a volleyball hit it and the clock lost, but they promise me the new one that they already have will be put up but not until volleyball is over.
Dilka, Hector and Marcus my hosts are really enthusiastic about bringing wheelchair basketball back to the “island” and I am confident they will do a great job.
The hotel is first class and I saw the building (under construction) where the meals will be served and it is definitely ready for wheelchairs.
Later today I will go to a team practice. I will let you know what I saw later when I am back and have time.
It is clear to me that the people here are looking forward to these games.
Bye for now,
Maureen
